our story

Summer Marlow

Etch Cosmetics Owner

It all started with a drunk conversation in bed with a friend of mine 4 years ago … She said “Summer why don’t you try that microblading you’re so good at drawing” I said “no way! I can’t even draw my eyebrows on let alone tattoo someone’s face”

Beginning my PMU journey, I had no beauty background whatsoever! I studied Fashion styling in London I stayed for 3 years and decided it wasn’t for me.

I then came home and didn’t enjoy being back in my hometown, so I decided to move to Manchester. In Manchester I just bounced from job to job and was just about paying my bills and didn’t even have £5 to spare. I was still in debt from London and my life just wasn’t getting no better.

I was so hungry to become successful and to make everyone proud. I was taken out of school in year 9 and was placed in a centre, I was only aloud in 2 mainstream classes, English & Retail. I’ve never liked being told what to do and knew working for myself was the only way I would be happy.

After the conversation with my friend I decided to go for it! Without my partner lending me the money I wouldn’t be here today. I moved home from Manchester as I knew I couldn’t gain a clientele in another city. I rented a room above a hair salon which also set me back a few thousand to get right. I just knew I had to make this work! I now had so much debt! I knew I needed to get a move on. After 6 weeks my little room was ready “Bello Brows” was ready for clients.

My clientele was growing by the day, My goal was 4 sets of brows a week. I thought £150 a person, that’s £600 a week! £2400 was mind blowing for me. I made that happen in my first month. My lifestyle was completely changing. I remember saying to my partner I want jimmy Choo’s as my work shoes (those glittery ones you will remember them) I brought those 2 weeks into becoming self-employed. My vision was so strong I knew whatever I wanted I would get

My first year I was able to clear my debts, contribute to our mortgage and buy myself a nice car. I never ever imagined it would all work so quickly.

I had no background in beauty, so I went back to private collage and sat my level 2 and 3. I then went into aesthetics for a year and realised it was brows all along, so I quit aesthetics completely.

A year and half went by and I left my rented room and moved into a clinic in my home. This is when people started to message me asking what blades are used, If I would do 1-1 classes, if I ever thought to teach? At this moment in time teaching really wasn’t in my pipeline I didn’t do great at school I never imagined myself as a tutor.

Months passed and I thought why not become a tutor, I can at least sit my educational studies and if I struggle, I won’t go ahead with it Me and my Friend Rachel went and done our teaching together.

After doing the course I had so much energy to teach! It took me 7 months to write my manual. I struggle with spellings, grammar and how to get my message across. I worked day and night to make sure my manual was perfect: I was not posting courses until I was happy.

My courses were ready to go, and I knew I needed more space, I finally took the big leap and opened my own shop!

4 Years later here I am with a Clinic a hair salon, A academy and 3 employed staff members and a team of 10.

I feel like my career has only now just started, I know some will think l’m doing great, but I won’t stop until I reach my goals, I still have so much more to give. My success didn’t come easy I have worked endlessly around the clock to make my dreams happen. Im very passionate about brows and making people smile, doing this daily is just a dream come true

I’m still in denial on how far Etch has come and I don’t think it will ever sink in, I’m truly grateful for every client or student that walks Through my door. My best advice is not to listen to anyone else other than yourself, Make your own mistakes and do what you think is right.

My goals continue to change in terms of business, but I always have projects I’m working on and new ideas on how to earn money whilst I’m sleeping. The final goal is to have a gorgeous home and a family.
